COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry Holds the 2021 Science and Technology Innovation Conference and Signs the Agreement on the Establishment of the “Marine Clean Fuel Joint-study Union”

From October 15 - 16, COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry held the 2021 Science and Technology Innovation Conference in Shanghai, which focused on achieving the “dual carbon goals” and accelerating enterprise science and technology innovation to facilitate high-quality development.
During the event, the establishment of China’s first “Marine Clean Fuel Joint-study Union” was announced. Committed to the research and promotion of new marine clean fuel application technology, the union is initiated by COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry and co-sponsored by Dalian CRRC Diesel Engine Co. Ltd., COSCO SHIPPING Tianjin, China Shipping & SINOPEC Suppliers Co., Ltd. (SINOBUNKER), Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China Classification Society (CCS), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), and China Development Bank Financial Leasing Co., Ltd. Alfa Laval (China) Co., Ltd. witnessed the signing of the agreement.
Meanwhile, a letter of intent on the joint development of the “Ammonia-powered Dual-fuel Combustion and Supply Functionality Research and Demonstration Project” initiated by COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry Dalian was also signed at the ceremony. It is the first joint scientific research project launched by the union.
In addition, a signing ceremony was held in parallel for the shipbuilding contract of a 63600-DWT bulk carrier. The order is placed by Bank of Communications Financial Leasing Co., Ltd. and fulfilled by COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry Zhoushan. This project is the first completely self-designed shipbuilding project of COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry, and also the first self-designed real ship project launched by COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry Design & Research Institute since its establishment, with fully independent intellectual property rights. The carrier is a low-carbon, energy-saving, environmental-friendly and high-performance type of ship, with leading performance metrics among advanced model of ships of the same class in China.
